The New 2020 Chevy Silverado Showdown

Silverado 1500
Chevrolet did a full redesign of the Silverado 1500 in 2019. Then 2020 came along and then made even more refinements.
Some of these changes include:
• Making the 6.2-liter V-8 and 10-speed automatic transmission available across the lineup
• Joining the lineup is the Duramax diesel 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine
Already known for its best-in-class tow rating of 13,400 pounds, these revisions made Silverado even more desirable. In addition, the cargo bed can haul more than 2000 pounds of payload in its cargo bed.
Speaking of beds, there are three large bed sizes in the Silverado lineup. Silverado offers many different engine options including a V-6, two V-8s, a turbocharged four-cylinder, and the Duramax diesel inline-six-cylinder engine. There is also a smorgasbord of powertrain choices in the 1500 model. The 1500 offers the worker’s stripped-down model with necessities to get the job done. Then it goes all the way up to the luxurious High Country model. The Crew Cab models offer plentiful legroom.
Other interior features include:
• Head-up display
• Ventilated front seats
• Wireless smartphone charging
• Clever storage cubbies spread throughout the cabin
• Touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a mobile hotspot
In the higher trim levels, an 8.0-inch touchscreen is part of the interior package.
Silverado 2500
The Silverado 2500 is bigger and tougher than its little brother, the 1500. It comes equipped with a standard gas-powered 6.6-liter V-8 that’s all-new. This gives it a whopping 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque.
The Duramax diesel V-8 carries over from before the redesign. It still creates 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft. What’s new to go with Duramax V-8 is the Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. All this engine power gives the Silverado 2500 higher tow ratings than its rivals. With the Duramax diesel-powered engine it can max out a whopping 35,500 pounds of towing capacity. The 2500 Crew Cab might shorten the cab but it offers other interior advantages. It has a longer wheelbase than the previous generations of 2500. What does all this give new owners? One benefit is a significant increase in passenger space in Crew Cab models. Interiors are no longer standard pickup fare. Chevy, wanting to make a run at its competition, offers interiors that might make you wonder if you’re actually in an SUV or crossover. The HD model comes with a new camera system built to eliminate all blind spots around the truck.
Silverado 3500
The Silverado 3500 again has a growth spurt from its smaller brothers. Like the 2500, the 3500 has a standard gas-powered 6.6-liter V-8 that’s all new. It also has a 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque.
Also in the 3500 is the Duramax diesel V-8 carried over from the previous generation. This is the fourth generation of the 3500HD. As part of the redesign, Chevy addressed cabin space, creating more passenger room for both driver’s row seats and cab row seating. In this big truck, Chevrolet also offers many trim and package levels. Some of those options include:
• Three cab configurations
• Two-bed lengths
• Four-wheel drive or dual rear wheels for even more capability
• 15-way camera makes towing an easier proposition
The power tailgate is also a nice feature in the heavy-duty truck.
Differences Between the Models
The Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 are basically considered the same model with a variety of trim packages and options. The key difference involves size as mentioned earlier. The 1500 is a half-ton truck. The 2500 and 3500 are considered heavy-duty trucks. The 2500 a three-quarter-ton and the 3500 a one-ton truck. Many believe if you do serious towing and hauling, you should consider the 2500 or 3500 model. Even further, the Duramax diesel engine seems to be the best choice for big-time hauling and towing.
Towing capabilities are as follows:
• 1500 can tow up to 12,000 pounds
• 2500 can tow up to 14,500 pounds
• 3500 Duramax 23,100 pounds
The two larger models also offer larger fuel capacity, ranging between 26 gallons and 36 gallons.
